History of the ΑΗ Chapter
In our 79 years of existence at the University of Colorado, just over 700 men have passed through Theta Xi; allowing them to receive more than just a degree from their college experience. These same men have gone on to become prominent leaders on this campus, and throughout the nation, as brothers and alumni. Whether it’s from athletics to business and politics to scholarship, Theta Xi develops your leadership skills setting you apart from the crowd. The experience of Theta Xi begins with the first handshake, allowing you to make your mark and in the process develop friendships and memories that last a lifetime. We at the Alpha Eta Chapter of the Theta Xi Fraternity are extremely excited that you are considering fraternity rushing, and even more so considering Theta Xi. Theta Xi is full of opportunities for one to pursue, and above all its members strive for personal excellence.
Theta Xi is a group of young men who work together to accomplish goals while assisting Brothers on their path to manhood. Theta Xi members push each other to strive for their personal best in all aspects of collegiate life. We live our lives through the principles of BALANCE which stands for Brotherhood, Academics, Leadership, Adventure, Nobility, Community, and Excellence.
Theta Xi Brothers strive for academic excellence which is achieved through an eight hour-a- week study program and access to free tutoring. We also have several Brothers in advanced degrees, such as business, engineering, pre-med, and architecture.
Theta Xi holds social events ranging from HUGE parties, football games, fight-nights, formals, and retreats at Rocky Mountain National Park. Our biggest trip of the year is our trip to Moab, Utah, where we mountain bike, four wheel, ATV, hike, and kayak.
We firmly believe that adventure and organized sports help form stronger bonds of brotherhood. They promote an understanding for the rules of the game, which can be further applied to life after college, and it is for these reasons that we are active participants in intramurals. The adventure sports promote moving beyond your limits. Whether it's climbing a sheer cliff face, mountain biking the last mile of a trail in a massive hail storm, or relaxing in a raft crashing through some class V rapids, Theta Xi will help each member find a great solution to get out of these problems. By doing so each member gains the ability to think outside of the box and thus becomes a Balanced Man.
Theta Xi works hand-in-hand with our National headquarters in organizing philanthropic events with both the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation and Habitat for Humanity. One of things that our members consistently most proud of is helping to raise money for those that are less fortunate than us. We also assist in teaching young cub scouts how to rock climb and provide a large amount of money to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation through our annual Ski-Fest for MS.
Gentlemanly conduct is an ideal the Brothers of Theta Xi take seriously. The Brothers of Theta Xi feel that hazing serves to alienate and degrade new members, therefore not serving to fulfill the goal of acclimation nor demonstrating gentlemanly conduct. A new member, therefore, is treated as a brother from the start and is not asked or encouraged to do embarrassing or harmful acts. The philosophy of associating Theta Xi is that a new member works with the Brothers not for them.
Being an associate member, however, does carry many responsibilities and is a daily commitment. The associate member class participates in philanthropies, an associate member class improvement on the house, and associate member tests that cover knowledge of the Theta Xi Fraternity. All new members are included in house parties, date functions, work sessions, athletic events, and other activities in which brothers take part.
What we look for in a man is someone that is willing to expand their views of the world through bonding with Brothers, while at the same time maintaining a sense of individuality. We are looking for sincere, genuine men who will uphold our standards of excellence and at the same time have a great time through life-changing experiences with their Theta Xi Brothers.
